EZhou-Paiziluo is a folk music pattern of wind instrument and percussion , it is prevalent in Ezhou City of Hubei Province and its surrounding rural areas. EZhou-Paiziluo which is an important part of the local folk activities has quite long history and profound tradition.The paper has carried out a preliminary study towards EZhou-Paiziluo on the basis of field survey.The main part of the paper is divided into four chapters: Chapter I is the body research of EZhou-Paiziluo. This part makes an overall discussion of EZhou-Paiziluo using the theories of ethnomusicology and statistics etc, from the angles of jargon and commonly used name, music performers and music groups, musical instruments, the form of playing , repertoire and application of music as well as music scores and so on. Chapter II describes the real performance of EZhou-Paiziluo. It depicts the application of EZhou-Paiziluo in the local wedding celebration or funeral activities with the guide of "double window" measure. Chapter III tests the origin of EZhou-Paiziluo. The chapter explores the source of EZhou-Paiziluo, combining with studies of tunes research, literature recordation and the reputation of the performers on the basis of field investigation and music analysis. Chapter IV describes the transformation of EZhou-Paiziluo. It compares the information which obtained in its status survey of 2006-2008 with the relevant information in 1986-1988 in order to have a restricted view of its changes during the twenty years and explain the reasons, the comparison including five parts which are the music performers and music groups, the structure of the band, music repertoire, music configuration and the performing procedure.
