With the development of economic globalization, more and more Chinese readers have turned their attention to English literary works. However, language barriers often make it impossible for people to read carefully and thoroughly. Therefore, the translation of English literary works is particularly important. In the last century, the translation of English novels was the mainstream of modern Chinese translation practice.Because of the profound practical significance,English love novels are popular among Chinese readers.Safe Harbor is the work of Danielle Steele,a well-known American best-selling author, and was published by Random House in November 2003.The novel tells a story of a woman who suddenly lost her husband and son, gradually returned to normal life through participation in volunteer social activities and under the companionship and guidance of artist Matt and her daughter Pip.Different from other love novels, safe harbour is interspersed with the marriage crisis and the emotional crisis between mother and daughter. For the society of China, the book fits reality and has strong practical significance. In the process of translation, many cultural vocabularies, navigation vocabularies, and complicated sentence patterns have brought the writer big challenges. In order to solve the difficulties encountered in translation, the author reviewed the relevant information and filled the gaps in knowledge. In addition,Nord's function plus loyal principle also gave the author a great deal of inspiration, and guaranteed the translation process. The translation report bases on the original text safe harbour of Danielle Steel. The novel mainly describes the story of Ophelie and her daughter Pip regaining their confidence in life with the help of painter Matt. The report focuses on the contents of chapters 10 to 12 and the author's translation process, which mainly explains how to use function plus loyalty theory proposed by Nord to guide the translation of safe harbour. The report is divided into four parts. The first part is an introduction of this translation project. The second part is an overview of the translator's translationprocess and the theoretical framework of the function plus loyalty principle. The third part gives some examples to support the application of this theory in the translation of this novel. The fourth part is a conclusion. The author hopes to prove the application of function plus loyalty principle in literary translation through the translation report.
