A Study On C-E Translation Of Management Theory On Railway Operation(Excerpt)—From The Perspective Of Function Plus Loyalty Theory

The rapid development of Chinese railway and its technology not only promotes domestic economic development,but also makes tremendous contributions to international communication and cooperation.To promote our advanced railway technology and to further strengthen the communications on railway technology,we have to emphasize the translation of railway texts.Based on Text Typology,Skopos Theory and Theory of Translation Action,Christine Nord puts forward the Function plus Loyalty Theory,which is the further development of the German functionalists’ translation approach.Function refers to the elements which make target text affect in the intended way in target situation,and loyalty refers to the interpersonal relationship between the translator and the source-text producer,the target-text receiver,and the translation initiator.Taking the Chinese textbook Management Theory on Railway Operation as a case,this paper discusses specific translation methods of railway texts through the theoretical research on Function plus Loyalty Theory and its practical applications.Based on the features of the source text on lexical level and syntactic level,this paper elaborates the translation methods of railway terminologies,parallel structure phrases,non-subject sentences and paratactic structure sentences,and analyzes the intentions of the source-text producer,the target-text receiver,and the translation initiator in this translation practice.Considering the scientificalness and normalization of the textbook,and the acceptability of the target-text receiver,the author emphasizes the "loyalty" part of the theory in the study,suggesting that the translator should consider the intentions of three parties instead of using some single translation strategies.Adopting various translation methods to deal with the disparities in expression,logic and culture between the two languages,the translator tries to guarantee both the accuracy of the target text and the acceptability of the target-text receiver,so as to give a translation which can be understood by readers.This paper applies Function plus Loyalty Theory to the translation of railway texts for the first time,which not only expands the applicability of the theory,but also enriches the theoretical guidance of the translation of railway texts.
