With the rapid development of science and technology, the information technology has extended into many fields including education. The more and more important role of modern technology in education and the increasing callings for educational reform and innovation make it an inevitable trend to combine scientific technology with teaching.More and more educators begin to propose new teaching ideas like changing the traditional teaching method, and thus Flipped Classroom gradually comes into being as a newly emerging teaching model.Flipped Classroom refers to a new teaching approach that reverses two phases of learning:transmission and assimilation. Many researchers have put the Flipped Classroom into practice and achieved great success abroad. In recent years, some domestic universities have also had plenty of trying and practice.Current researches on the application of the Flipped Classroom mainly focus on universities rather than on middle schools, let alone the study of the Flipped Classroom based on middle school students' English course. Both quantitative study and qualitative study are adopted in the research to examine the teaching effect of Flipped Classroom in middle school students' English course. It is based on two classes in a middle school in Guangdong:one experimental class taking the Flipped Classroom and the other control class adopting the traditional lecturing.First,by way of comparing students' English scores from two classes, the results show that their English scores have both been improved after one semester and there exist significant difference between two classes in their post-test.In addition,an independent analysis of students'oral test scores following the post-test indicates that students from the experimental class perform much better than those from the control class. To some extent, all of these can prove that the Flipped Classroom has a better teaching effect than the traditional lecturing.Second, the questionnaire about middle school students' satisfaction of the Flipped Classroom is carried out,and the results show that most of middle school students hold positive and supportive attitude towards the Flipped Classroom;comparing with traditional class, the new teaching approach contributes to better learning, which are consistent with the findings of the former experiment.Third,an interview with some students randomly selected from the experimental class reveals that except for students' improvement of English scores, their self-learning ability, cooperative learning ability, language expression ability and communicative competence are all enhanced.Besides, the participants give some relevant advice according to their learning experience in the Flipped Classroom. Finally, the research offers suggestions from perspectives of group work, homework assignment online, classroom settings and micro-video designing on the basis of the English test results, questionnaire survey and interview so as to comprehensively summarize the experience of implementation and provide reference for promotion of the Flipped Classroom in middle school student' English course.
