Ngag dbang dpal ldan chos kyi rgyal mtshan?1850-1886?,who was the tenth member of the Kundeling Tatsak Jedrung Hutuktu,born in the Yarlung Deba in the south of Tibettan mountains,was a prominent figure in modern times of Tibettan history.He was indentified as the tenth Kundeling Tatsak Rinpoche from the Golden urn in the eight years Xian feng?1858?,and at the age of 22,received the Geshe Lharampa degree from the Great Prayer Festival at Lhasa.He acted as regent during the 14years Tong zhi?1875?and the 12 years Guang xu.After the death of the12^th Dalai Lama,Xi kai,who was an Amban,said'Please permit the Tatsak Jedrung Hutuktu,Ngag dbang dpal ldan chos kyi rgyal mtshan,to do affairs of Tibet for the Dalai Lama.'Before the birth of the reincarnation of the 12^th Dalai Lama,all affairs of Tibet were met with the help of Tatsak Jedrung Hutuktu.He began to look for the reincarnation of the 12^thh Dalai Lama and arranged the Enthronement Ritual for the 13^th Dalai Lama.Meanwhile,he served as the master of the 13^th Dalai Lama.During the 12 years of regency,Ngag dbang dpal ldan chos kyi rgyal mtshan,for his contribution to the welfare of people,bacame a Living Buddha reincarnation been revered by worshippers,and a great people having imposing merit in modern times of Tibettan history.I have discussed in some detail the regent of Tibet and of the life of Ngag dbang dpal ldan chos kyi rgyal mtshan in this paper,based on the researches of the predecessors,making full use of the Tibettan biograghies and archives about Tatsak Jedrung Lama.I have visited the Kundeling Monastery many times for the field investigate.The dissertation is composed of four sections which are the introduction and three chapters.The introduction analyze the purpose and meaning of the topic,and clarify this research methods and status.The first chapter mainly studies the historical background of Ngag dbang dpal ldan chos kyi rgyal mtshan.It embraces the derivation of the Kundeling Tatsak Reincarnation system and its name,the process of being recognized as the Kundeling Lama,the study experience,and the relations between Kundeling Monastery in Tibet and Pasho Gon in Chamdo.The second chapter discusses the production of regency system,the convention about Regent decision,and reasons of successfully implementing regency system in Tibet.It also studies the historical background and causes by which Ngag dbang dpal ldan chos kyi rgyal mtshan acted as regent,that are his intelligence and title which was conferred by the Emperor Guang xu.The third chapter mainly sums up the achievement of political and religious of Ngag dbang dpal ldan chos kyi rgyal mtshan.He made great contribution to the stability of Tibettan society and served as the master of the 13^th Dalai Lama.
