A Report On The Translation Of Accreditation System Of UK Engineers From The Perspective Of Functional Translation Theory

Currently,the UK engineering industry has formed a complete accreditation system,which is widely recognized worldwide and can also serve as a good reference for the accreditation of that in China.China Association for Science and Technology has instructed our group to conduct research and translation on the accreditation system of UK engineers to form a report so as to provide a reference for the accreditation of China’s engineering industry.Under the guidance of Nord’s Functional Translation Theory,the author completed the translation practice report in accordance with the text of what she responded for in the project.The text,which comes from the official websites of the UK Engineering Council(ECUK)and 35 British vocational engineering institutions authorized by the ECUK to carry out accreditation and registration work,belongs to informative texts.Based on the principle of Function plus Loyalty,this paper strives to accurately transmit the information of the original text,in order to realize the“functional” equivalence of the original and the translation and achieve the “loyalty”to the translation task as well as the relationship occured during the task.This report is divided into four parts,the first part is the description of the translation task,which roughly introduces the translation project from the perspective of text background and text analysis.The second part represents the translation process,which mainly includes three parts: pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation proofreading.The author gives a concrete description of the implementation process of the whole translation project.At the same time,it focuses on Nord’s Functional Translation Theory and its applicability in this translation practice.As for the third part,it is an analysis of translation examples.From the perspective of Functional Translation Theory of Node,combining specific cases,the author analyzes translation methods used in practice at syntactic level.The last part is a summary of this translation practice,the author summarizes the experience and shortcomings in the translation practice in this part.By completing the project’s translation and writing a practical report,the author has gained a deeper understanding of the translation of informative texts and Nord’s Functional Translation Theory,and hopes that this practical experience can lay a solidfoundation for future translation work in this field.
