A Report On The Translation Of Operational Procedure Of SD Steel Based On Newmark’s Translation Theory

In recent years,China’s steel industry has developed rapidly with the global industry transfer and the rapid development of China’s economy.For this reason,translation is essential for technological exchange between different countries to ensure the saftey and efficiency of production.Taking Operational Procedure of SD Steel as a case study,this practice report analyzes the translation of words and sentences in the light of Newmark’s Translation Theory.This practice report is intended to provide some references for the research of the translation of scientific texts and some clues for the combination between translation theory and practice.The following findings can be made: semantic translation and communicative translation are two crucial methods in translating proper names by analyzing specific contexts;general words should be translated with the method of communicative translation in order to enhance the acceptability of the translation;regarding the translation of long sentences and passive voice sentences,both sematic translation and communicative translation can be employed according to particular characteristics of sentences.This practice report consists of four chapters.This report begins with a comprehensive overview of Operation Procedure of SD Steel,which includes the background,significance and features of the text.Then this report addresses the description of the working process,including preparation for the task,translating process and proofreading process.Next,this report analyzes semantic and communicative translation methods used in the translation of words(proper name and general words)and sentences in the light of Peter Newmark’s translation theory.In last part the conclusion of the practice and the implications of the for future work are discussed.
