A Comparative Study Of Lonely Images Between Liu Zhenyun And Lu Xun's Novels

Liu Zhenyun's novels,to a certain extent,inherit the critical tradition of realism which is originated from the May Fourth Movement,and share similarities with Lu Xun's novels in rethinking nationality and social critique.Loneliness is another similar theme for Liu Zhenyun and Lu Xun's novels.Loneliness is a prominent theme in Liu's novels.Most of his novels elucidate an indescribable loneliness and a deep estrangement is existed among characters in the novel.So that the characters are found themselves difficult in sharing joys and sorrows with others and they are deemed as the kites without strings wander in the world.In Lu Xun's novels,loneliness is also highlighted and loneliness runs through his novels.Additionally,a strong subjectivity of him is injected in the novel which reflects the loneliness of the intellectual.A series of lonely characters are shown both in Liu Zhenyun and Luxun's novels,in which the lonely images are different from the ones of Western modernism who actively separate themselves from the outside.Instead,they are force to be lonely by the exclusion of the society and others.The images of loneliness in Lu Xun's novels can be roughly summarized as "unique individuals" and one of the members of the "mediocre people".To some degree,the images of loneliness in Liu Zhenyun's novels are a rewriting of the lonely images who are mainly “mediocre people” in Lu Xun's novels.And the characters in his writing,such as Yang Baishun,Li Xuelian,Liu Yuejin,all are spiritual descendants in contemporary of Ah Q and Mrs Xianglin's.From the standpoint of modern intellectuals,Lu Xun injects a strong subjective consciousness into his novel and mainly focuses the illustration of individual's loneliness.Liu Zhenyun generalizes the loneliness of "mediocre people" in Lu Xun' novels and presents it as a universal existence.In this way,the lonely images in Lu Xun's novels show a strong rebellious spirit while in Liu Zhenyun's novels they are the representation silence to reality.The shaping of the lonely images reflects the writers' perception and experience of the world.The lonely images in Liu Zhenyun's works have its own uniqueness and their spiritual realms are lowered to the level of “mediocre people” by Liu,where the people live in the hustle and bustle.So that such kind of continuous writing reflects the writers' abandonment of the enlightenment opinions.Therefore,when considering the "new realistic" novelists in a holistic manner,we may find that they have some problems of spiritual realm in creation more or less.Actually,it is a problem that is exposed in the work of a group of writers who experienced "new realism".
