Si Sheng Pian Hai compiled by Han Xiaoyan and Han Daozhao, father and son,in Jin Dynasty, plays an important role in the history of dictionaries. The most common version of Pian Hai is the version of Ming Dynasty, which is the gisted version in the later dictionaries.Hanyu Da Zi Dian and Zhonghua Zi Hai,which have been compiled in recent years, have also taken the version of Ming Dynasty as the quotation object, from which Chinese characters are taken directly or indirectly. However,as a dictionary of the Jin Dynasty, the version of Pian Hai has been revised for several times. The original appearance of Pian Hai has been greatly different from that of Pian Hai.There are many errors in the version of Ming Dynasty. The large-scale dictionaries such as Hanyu Da Zi Dian and Zhonghua Zi Hai quoted from the engraved version of Ming Dynasty will also inherit its errors, which will affect the compilation level and utilization value of the dictionaries to a certain extent. The version of Chongqing period(only 10-12 volumes)is engraved in Jin Dynasty. The version of Zhiyuan period is engraved in Jin Dynasty and revised in Yuan Dynasty. The titles of both volumes 10 and 11 are Taihe Wuyin xin gai bing lei ju Sishengpian. In this paper, the version of Chongqing period in Jin Dynasty and the version of Zhiyuan period in Yuan Dynasty are taken as the research objects, guided by the theories of textual criticism, phonology and exegesis, and referring to Yupian and Longkan cited by Pian Hai,as well as other books such as Xinxiu Yupian,Guangyun,Jiyun and Wuyin Jiyun. This paper compares the versions of Jin and Yuan Dynasties(Volume 10,11)and the versions of Ming Dynasty(the engraved version of Chenghua period, the engraved version of Zhengde period, the engraved version of Wanli period).A comparative study was carried out. This paper compares the engraved versions in Jin,Yuan and Ming dynasties, and finds that there are great differences in the Chinese characters, phonetic notation and interpretation. The Chinese characters are mainly reflected in the number of Chinese characters received, the shape of the Chinese characters and the citations to which they belong;the phonetic notations are mainly reflected in three aspects:the different phonetic items, the different ways of phonetic notations and the different use of phonetic characters;and the interpretation are mainly reflected in two aspects: the different meanings and the different interpretations. On the basis of comparative analysis of Chinese characters, phonetic notation and interpretation, this paper analyses the causes of the differences from two aspects of engravement and revision. Finally, the value of comparative study is discussed from the aspects of research of Pian Hai,compilation and revision of large-scale dictionaries and research of difficult characters.
