"Si sheng pian hai " is the dictionary which includes most Chinese characters in the ancient time,The engraved version of the Ming Dynasty is particulariy quoted by the later dictionaries.But until the Ming Dynasty,the book has been revised many times and become diffrent from the original.There are some mistakes in this book and dictionaries which referenced it.Currently the earliest version collected in the Chinese mainland is the one engraved in Jin Dynasty and revised in Yuan Dynasty.This version is more closed to the original one in that we can learn more about “pian hai” by comparing it with the engraved version of the Ming Dynasty.In this paper,we select the fifth and sixth volumes to do a comprehensive study of the links and differences from the aspects of Chinese character,phonetic and interpretation.We can see there are many differences between the “pianhai” revised in taihe and Ming Dynasty such as the collection and shape on character,the methods,quantity and diction on phonetic,the content and item on interpretation.Then point out the reasons of the differeces between the two dietionaries,including revise and engraved.At last,the paper presents the values of conparing these versions.It is conducive to promoting the study on "pianhai",revising dictionaries and explaining difficult characters.
