Objective Explore the possibility of simplifying the Personality Inventory for DSM-5(PID-5)Method This study used convenient sampling method.Sample 1 consisted of 2247 undergraduate students from Nanjing Medical University, and full version of PID-5 tested this sample. Then Exploratory factor analysis and regression analysis were conducted based on the data of the full version,100 items from 220 items were extracted to make a short form version of PID-5.Sample 2 consisted of 594 undergraduate students from Medical Vocational College of Jiangsu and 21 undergraduate students from Shandong University. This sample was used to test the short form version of PID-5.The data of sample 2 were used for correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, etc.,to test the reliability and validity of the short form version. Results 1.The principal component exploratory factor analysis using the maximum variance rotation showed that the full version of PID-5 had 5 factors for 25 traits, and its cumulative explanatory variance was 55.829%.2.The short version of PID-5 retains 25 traits, and each trait selects 4 items. The total number of items is 100.3.Item analysis of the short form version of PID-5 showed that the correlation coefficients between the items and the corresponding trait were between 0.251 and 0.793.And among the 25 traits, except for Depression(both belonging to Negative Emotion dimension and Detachment dimension),the correlation coefficients between each trait and the dimension were the highest. At last, the correlation coefficients between the five dimensions were between 0.660-0.814.4.The internal consistency coefficients of 5 dimensions in the short version were between 0.778 and 0.914.And the internal consistency coefficients of 25 traits were between 0.137 and 0.743 5.The confirmatory factor analysis of the short version of PID-5 showed that the relative fitting index(CFI)in the five dimensions was between 0.770 and 0.875,and the approximate root mean square error(RMSEA)was between 0.067 and 0.089.Conclusion 1.Simplification of PID-5 has the possibility,5 dimensions and 25 traits have certain stability across cultures.2.In this short version, traits which under the belonging dimensions are stabilized. However,a few traits may collectively belong to a higher order dimension, some traits may not belong to the original dimension.3.The items of this short version of the 25 traits are unstable, some items may do not belong to the corresponding traits...
