A Study On Teaching Spoken English In Senior High School Based On Task-Based Language Teaching

The main purpose of English teaching is to develop students' ability to use what they have learned,not only in reading and writing,but also in oral communication.However,due to various reasons,students have great difficulties in developing their oral English competence.Therefore,effective methods should be explored for oral English teaching,and the reform on oral English classroom should be implemented urgently.Different from many previous studies on the teaching of reading or writing in senior high schools,the author,based on social constructivism theory and input hypothesis theory,analyzes and explores the teaching of spoken English based on TBLT.Task-based teaching mode is a language teaching method that emerged in the 1980 s,which emphasizes “learning by doing”.In recent years,the task-based teaching mode for oral English is gradually introduced into the basic English classroom teaching in our country.It requires teachers to design specific and operable tasks centering on specific communication and language projects in the teaching process,which enables students to complete tasks through expression and inquiry,so as to achieve the goal of learning and mastering oral expression.The present study primarily aims to design a task-based oral teaching mode to help improve students' oral capability.It is assumed that teaching of spoken English based on TBLT is effective in stimulatingstudents' oral learning interest and improving their oral ability.After a semester of differentiated teaching,the results of the oral ability test before the experiment and the oral ability test after the experiment are compared and analyzed,so as to answer the following three questions:1.What is the effect of TBLT on Spoken English Teaching?2.How can TBLT help to promote students' learning interest as well as their speaking ability?3.How can teachers design a speaking class based on TBLT?The author chooses students from two classes Grade Two in Guizhou Experimental High School as the experimental subjects,adopts different teaching methods and conducts the experimental teaching for one semester.In the experimental class,task-based teaching mode is adopted for oral teaching,while in the control class the traditional teaching method is used.In addition,the questionnaires survey before and after the experiment were designed and the results of which were compared.By analyzing the data,the author discovers that the oral improvement of the experimental class is greater than that of the control class.Thus,it can be concluded that task-based teaching mode is effective in the oral teaching process.It not only enhances students' learning interest,but also is an effective and efficient teaching method to improve students' oral ability,which is worthy of wide promotion in the oralteaching of senior high school.The teaching of spoken English based on TBLT is conducive to addressing the perennial problems in traditional language teaching,optimizing students' learning methods and stimulating students' motivation for autonomous learning.The author explores ways in teaching of speaking based on TBLT to widen the path in improving students' communicative ability as well as diversity in teaching strategies of a speaking class.However,it is difficult to popularize this teaching method on a large scale due to the deep-rooted concepts of most teachers on the traditional oral teaching mode and the insufficient emphasis on developing students' oral ability.
