A Study On Chinese Characters Of Zaoxiangji Inscriptions In Wei,Jin,Southern And Northern Dynasties

During the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties,the situation of using characters was very chaotic.In this period,the societies were not only politically confused,but also various scripts,which were Lishu(??),Xingshu(??),Caoshu(??)and Kaishu(??),coexisted.However,because of the authenticity and permanence of stone materials and the characteristics of the carver's social backgrounds,Zaoxiangji inscriptions have fully reflected the original situations of characters using in the society at that time.Furthermore,in the development of Kaishu,Zaoxiangji inscriptions has been identified as very important time period.Therefore,it is of great significance for the development history of Chinese characters to study the Zaoxiangji inscriptions in Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern DynastiesThis dissertation is divided into four chapters and three appendicesIn the introduction,there is explanation about research materials,its earlier studies,research significance and research methodsThe first chapter is about materials arrangement.On the basis of "Stone Inscriptions Database of the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties" of the Center for The Study and Application of Chinese Characters of East China Normal University,this dissertation has added 89 statues of Zaoxiangji inscriptions.In addition,12 statues of which no other research papers have been found are commentedThe second chapter is about quantitative analysis.Although the research of the stone inscriptions during the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties has been extensively studied,there is still room for thematic research on single type of Zaoxiangji inscriptions.On the basis of earlier studies,this dissertation deepens the study of the Chinese characters system on Zaoxiangji inscriptions.From the perspective of the whole word,the total number of characters,frequency of characters,number of strokes and variant characters are counted.Through data analysis,the following conclusions are drawn:the frequency of characters and the number of strokes have a direct impact on the number of variants.And then,from the perspective of components,1202 direct components and 457 basic components are counted.Besides every component is categorized according to its functionThe third chapter is about component variations.Component variations of Zaoxiangji inscriptions are divied into five categories,and examples for detailed analysis are givenThe fourth chapter is about characteristic of Zaoxiangji inscriptions.Through the study of whole characters and components,Zaoxiangji inscriptions are found to have characteristics of Suzi(??).According to the number of variations,it is proved that there was no clear orthographic concept in Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern DynastiesThis dissertation have three appendices,which are Word Frequency Table,Direct Components Table,and Compilations of Character Patterns.
