Research On The Offical Script Works Of Yangxian

Yang Xian was a famous calligrapher and epigrapher in late Qing Dynasty.The existing masterpieces of Yang Xian all have unique personal style.The dissertation classifies the works of Yang Xian into three parts according to periods,including the early stage,the middle stage and the late stage and discover the changing process of his works.Thus the features of the three periods can be summarized.In Yang Xian's early age,he mainly learned from the stele of Han Dynasty,among which Shi Men Song and Kai Tong Bao Xie Dao KeShi were the most important ones.The works of Yang Xian in his early stage were great influenced by Chen Hongshou and Yi Bingshou.Yang Xian's style of calligraphy in this period are structured in the form and uniform in the ink.He imitated and copied the artworks of others' while remained his own style when learning the skills from other calligraphy masters.In the middle stage of Yang Xian,he mainly learned from Cao Quan Bei and Kong Zhou Bei,he turned his font of characters from round ones into the square ones.It can be considered that his personal feature was initially formed in the period.In the later period of Yang Xian,the official script style of his were changed into strong,unconstrained,sincere and natural,his spirit and calligraphy works were integrated.Yang Xian had firmly kept his national integrity,even if the situation was turbulent at his time.Nevertheless,he could not do anything as an intellectual.As a result,the calligrapher chose to ease his mind through the medium of poems,calligraphy and paintings.He was trying to eliminate his oppressions,meanwhile,injecting his indomitable spirit in the art of calligraphy.According to the study of Yang Xian's learning experience,calligraphic fellows and works,several reasons make his style of official script distinguish from the others'.The dissertation is proposed by the different styles of his three periods of Yang Xian,ordering and comparing related historical data includes poems,articles,calligraphy works,letters,then trying to find out the origin and evolution of the calligraphic style of Yang Xian.
