The material of this translation practice report is from Cambridge Music. The book Cambridge Music was written by Frida Knight and published by the Oleander Press of the United States in 1980.This book was written in chronological order and the content was mainly about the development of Cambridge music from the middle Ages to present. The book was divided into ten chapters.I am mainly responsible for the last five chapters, namely chapter 6 to chapter 10.Therefore,the last five chapters are selected as the analytical materials for the translation practice report. This translation practice report is divided into five chapters: task description, process description, preparation for translation, case analysis and conclusion. In chapter one, task description mainly describes the task source, task content, task purpose and significance. In chapter two, process description mainly summarizes the whole translation process, including pre-translation,process of translation, proofreading and revision. In the third chapter, preparation for translation elaborates how I carry on the preparatory work. This chapter includes reading and analyzing the original text to understand the general idea of the text, reading and analyzing parallel texts to get familiar with relevant knowledge, and selecting skopos theory to guide translation practice. In chapter four, the case study describes how I translate the original text under the guidance of skopos theory with various translation techniques in terms of words, sentences and rhetoric. In chapter five,it summarizes the guiding role of skopos theory to the musical text translation and my gains and deficiencies through the project. The whole process of translation provides a great help to improve my translation skills and ability. It has enriched my translation practices and experience.
