This translation report is based on an English-Chinese translation task. The author is entrusted by a university professor to translate the fifth chapter of The Cambridge Companion to Byron. This chapter mainly studies Byron's works Childe Harold's Pilgrimage I & II and The Tales, the topic of Byronic Hero and the period of history Byron lived in.As an academic paper, the source text demonstrates strong technicality.Meanwhile,as a study on Byron's works,it inevitably quotes works from Childe Harold's Pilgrimage,The Tales and Byron's Letters and Journals, which adds literariness to the source text.Guided by Skopos theory, the report focuses on the representation of technicality and literariness in translation. The report consists of five chapters.Chapter one is a brief introduction including description of the task, significance of the task and translation process.Chapter two is on the pre-translation procedure covering analysis of text features, translation resources collection and theoretical support. In chapter three, the author gives the case study on how to represent technicality and literariness during translation.Chapter four presents the stage of posttranslation, including self-checking and proofreading. The last chapter is conclusion,in which methods and experience on the representation of technicality and literariness in translation are summarized. In terms of the representation of technicality, the author mainly discusses translation of academic terms, names and complex sentences that are loaded with much academic information. To represent literariness, the author puts efforts in translation of quoted literary works and descriptive and narrative long sentences.
