A Practice Report On E-C Translation Of The World’s Most Beautiful Castles (Part Ⅰ)

With the development of Chinese economy,the status of tourism is becoming more and more important.Outbound trip is popular with many Chinese people,so the translation of tourist texts plays a vital role in overseas travel.This thesis is a report on the English-Chinese translation of The World’s Most Beautiful Castles.This book selects the most amazing castles in the world.The main content is about the castles’ historical background,story and legend,architectural pattern,geographical environment and family history.This report analyzes and discusses the translation of the book from task description,translation process,translation preparation,case analysis,and conclusion.The report is divided into five parts.The first part describes the translation task and introduces the source and background of the project,as well as the content and language characteristics.The second part describes three processes of translation practice which include preparation process,translation process and proofreading process.The third part introduces the task preparation including reading and analyzing the original text and parallel texts,glossary preparation and theoretical foundation.The case analysis in the fourth part is the core part of this report.The author proposes corresponding translation strategies according to the translation problems of vocabulary and long sentences.At the same time,the author also puts forward solutions for the translation text with characteristics of culture.The fifth part summarizes the translation practice project.The author takes the Skopos theory as guidelines in the translation practice and analyzes the translation problems accordingly in the report.The significance of this translation practice is that the author is more familiar with the translation methods of such texts by translating The World’s Most Beautiful Castles.The author hopes to provide more choices for Chinese to travel abroad and give reference for those who are engaged in tourism translation in the future.
