Nowadays,the development of modern educational technology has greatly changed and affected the teaching approaches and educational theory of the language.In high school,more and more English teachers use multimedia instruments in English teaching.Rising in this century,as a new teaching concept,Multimodal discourse analysis theory has been widely used in the field of teaching,not only combining the needs of society,but also promoting the current reform of English curriculum.Actually,majority of teachers are not familiar with Multimedia discourse analysis,but to some extent they has applied Multimodal teaching in their English class.From the perspective of teachers and students,this study aims to objectively reflect the current situation of the application of Multimodal teaching.What’s more,the author tries to know about the existing problems of Multimodal teaching in using.Teachers and students from Yan’an High School,Shiyan High School and Fuxian High School in Yan’an City participated in the inteviews and answering the questionnaires.In this thesis,questionnaires and interviews were used to investigate the application of Multimodal teaching.Firstly,from the questionnaires of students and teachers,the author has a general understanding of the application and teaching effectiveness of Multimodal teaching.Secondly,by interviewing students and teachers,the author has known more about the exist problems of Multimodal teaching as well as the influence of Multimodal teaching on students’ learning.Through analyzing the questionnaires and interviews,the author will give some advice about how to apply Multimodal teaching more scientifically and efficiently in high school English teaching.After analyzing,this study draws the following conclusions:(1)At present,Multimodal teaching has been widely used in high school English teaching,First of all,Multimodal teaching has been widely used in high school English teaching.Second,students have a positive attitude towards Multimodal teaching and are more satisfied with the current Multimodal teaching effects,but feedback that the current Multimodal teaching ability of teachers is insufficient.Third,teachers have a positive attitude towards Multimodal teaching,recognizing that Multimodal teaching can expand learning resources,fully mobilize learners’ multiple senses to participate in learning,and stimulate learner’ interest in learning.(4)The teachers’ ability of designing the Multimodal lessons is far from optimal.Many of them don’t know well about Multimodal discourse analysis theory.Yet,high school English teachers are less likely to adopt collective lesson preparation when designing Multimodal teaching.According to the conclusion of this thesis,the author gives some advice about Multimodal teaching: Firstly,education department should offer teachers the chances of learning Multimodal teaching theory;Secondly,teachers should communicate with others as much as possible.Teachers can improve their ability of designing Multimodal teaching through learning from inter-school or intra-school high quality courses,sharing and exchanging experience with teachers of different ages,and adopting to students’ suggestions.(3)Teachers should ask students for some advice about the design of the current Multimodal teaching to improve their teaching ability.
