In China, some ethnic minorities are located in remote rural areas.Although the basic foreign language education has made great progress, there is still a gap between rural areas and developed areas. In Inner Mongolia,it is particularly urgent to improve English classroom teaching quality in rural Mongolian senior high schools. With the development of the society and the continuous deepening and expansion of the research field of ecological education, researches on classroom ecology has been widely concerned by experts and scholars in the field of education. As the most influential classroom ecologist,Doyle advocates classroom ecology research.According to the study of Chinese scholar Dou Fuliang(2003),classroom ecology is composed of three elements: teachers, students and classroom environment. The three ecological factors are independent and interact with each other to fulfill the education function of ecology. This study is to investigate the present situation and influencing factors of English classroom ecology in rural Mongolian senior high school and the main research questions are presented as follows:1.What is the present situation of English classroom ecology in rural Mongolian senior high school?2.What are the factors that may influence English classroom ecology in rural Mongolian senior high school? The subject of the study is Mongolian senior high school in Xingan league of Inner Mongolia. The study adopts the combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis, which consists of questionnaire, classroom observation and interview.A total of 248 students' questionnaires were distributed in 5 classes of Grade two in this school to investigate the present situation of English classroom ecology in rural Mongolian senior high school.Five students and three teachers were selected in the interviews to investigate the influencing factors of English classroom ecology in rural Mongolian senior high school.SPSS21.0 software is utilized to make statistics and analysis. The results of study show that Mongolian senior high school students hold a positive attitude towards teaching facilities and relationship between teacher and students, while holding a negative attitude towards classroom decoration, seat arrangement, classroom discipline and learning atmosphere;Mongolian senior high school students hold a positive attitude towards cooperation spirit and the will to overcome difficulties. The strong motivation, interest and self-confidence of English learning are relatively low,and there are relatively fewer interactions between teachers and classmates;Mongolian senior high school English teachers adopt a trilingual teaching mode, use multimedia frequently, and can give encouragement and guidance to the good learners of English, but there still has the promotion space in the design of classroom activities, teaching methods and evaluation methods. The results of students' and teachers' interviews show that the main factors that may affect English classroom ecology in rural Mongolian senior high schools are as follows: The classroom environment lacks of the distinctive English subject characteristics;the English foundation of students is relatively weak;there lacks of native culture in the course book;the traditional teaching method, trilingual teaching mode and reform on English scores of College entrance examination affects classroom teaching;English teacher resources are insufficient;teachers' professional training is relatively inadequate. To some extent, this study enriches the research on English teaching ecology in rural Mongolian senior high school, and provides realistic basis for improving the quality of elementary English teaching in ethnic areas by improving the classroom ecological environment.
