This article takes the relationship between Marxian and Epicurean philosophy as the main line, interpret Marx’s Doctoral Thesis from a point of freedom. In the thesis,Marx deeply studied Epicurean atomic skew theory after criticizing the depreciation of it in the history of thought.Marx thinks that linear motion is the determination of atomic motion, and metaphor refers to the material basis of self-consciousness: Deflection movement is the individual performance of atom, and it means freedom itself;Rejection is a symbol of the individual’s power to escape from the determination for freedom. In the comparative analysis of Democritean and Epicurean Philosophy,Marx explicitly stated his views on freedom of consciousness. In the concept of freedom,Marx discovered that the freedom pursued by Epicurus is a self-inward freedom. Therefore, the freedom of Epicurus means the freedom of individual consciousness.Due to this point of view,Marx went further. He believed that people must not only have conscious freedom, but more importantly, they must have freedom of movement. The actions originating from human beings are self-acting in various social relations,so the freedom of human beings is ultimately the freedom in the relationship, that is,"the freedom in the determination." Marx overtook Epicurus on the basis of inheriting his thoughts. He tried to realize "the freedom and comprehensive development of man" through liberation.
