This is a translation report on Robert J.Kleber's International Trade,which is a textbook for international trade majors.Business text has special linguistic characteristics,which are primarily used to deliver information or meaning and facilitate business communication.As the number of business text increased greatly,the demand for business text translation has become more and more significant,while the main attention has not been paid to business textbook translation.By using Reiss' s text typology theory,this report explores features of business text and translation methods used in the writer's translation practice.International Trade,as a business textbook,is an informative text,therefore,considering Reiss' s text typology theory,the translation of International Trade should follow plain prose translation.Firstly,by assessing the characteristics and main function of source text,the author made a text type classification of source text and explained the feasibility of Reiss' s text typology in guiding International Trade translation.Based on these characteristics and the main function,the source text of International Trade was classified as informative text.Secondly,after the classification of text type,translation methods and techniques were identified under the guidance of Reiss' s text typology,which are plain prose translation and explicitation.Thirdly,in order to maintain explicitation and the correctness of information in target text,the author explored some specific translation methods and techniques from lexical,syntactic and discourse level by using literal translation,addition,division,inverse translation,omission and conversion,to testify that translated version has transmitted complete and correct information to the target readers.The author summarized some experience from this translation practice.Firstly,for translation of professional business textbook,the author needs to know background knowledge in the business field and master expression features.Secondly,it is of great importance to the author to confirm the text type and analyze characteristics of source text.Confirmation of text type has an important influence on subsequent translation practice.Thirdly,in the translation of informative text,the author should strictly deliver complete and clear information and meaning to ensure the translated version is understandable andreadable for the target readers.
