The New Curriculum Standard puts forward the new requirements on senior English vocabulary teaching;According to them,senior students must grasp more knowledge including chunks,grammar,phonetics,reading.As for solid phrases,phrase amount is requested from 300 to 550;and vocabulary amount,from 3000 to 3200;Furthermore,lexical chunk must be applied in English teaching.It is imperative for teachers to adopt the lexical-chunk theory in their English vocabulary teaching.The purpose of this study is to improve learners’ vocabulary under the guidance of lexical chunks theory,effectively develop learners’ language skills and better understand the given information,views,emotions and values of texts and reading materials.In the meantime,the study can help learners form their own skills in learning vocabulary and arouse their interest in English to achieve the goal of improving their English ability.Based on the present situation of vocabulary teaching in Wudang Middle School of Guiyang City,the writer adopts interview and questionnaires to learn about the concrete situation of the teaching of English lexical chunks;In the process,two classes are chosen,one is experimental class,the other is controlled class.The lexical-chunk has been applied to the teaching by means of experimental method and illustrate the practical significance of this study in promoting English vocabulary teaching in senior hing school.It is realized that the thunk theory not only improves the students’ abilities of language,but also develops their English scores.The results from the experimental class state:First,lexical-chunk can improve learners’ memory and vocabulary;Second,the theory is helpful in arousing learners’ attention to fixed phrase,collocations and sentence patterns in English communication,even remembering vocabulary,writing and cultivating learners’ awareness of lexical chunks.There is no doubt that the use of lexical chunks can improve senior English vocabulary.The research intends to solve following questions:1.what kinds of memory tactics do the learners use in vocabulary learning ?2.How can lexical-chunk theory be effectively applied in vocabulary teaching?3.Can it improve the students’ ability after the application of lexical chunk theory in vocabulary teaching?In the research,the following methods are applied:(1)Interview(2)Questionnaire(3)Experimental Method.The thesis consists of six chapters.The first chapter states background and significance.The second chapter describes literature review and related research at home and aboard.Later,theoretical framework is exposed in chapter three.The fourth chapter states research and methodology.In chapter five,the writer gathers data and analyses.Conclusions are in the sixth chapter,and it gives advice on English vocabulary teaching.
