Vocabulary is the basic component of language system.The learning of any kind of language starts from vocabulary.It is of great significance for language learning,especially for second language learning.Vocabulary is the key and difficult point in senior high school students' English learning,especially for grade one students.English vocabulary teaching is one of the basic contents of senior high school English teaching,and plays an important role in the whole English teaching system.Lewis divides lexical chunks into four types from the perspective of the combination of function and structure.They are words and aggregate words,high-frequency collocations,idioms and sentence frames.If students can realize the meaning and rule of lexical chunks and use lexical chunks to memorize vocabulary,they can quicken the memory speed of their basic knowledge and use English vocabulary more freely,so as to improve the ability to use English.This paper is based on second language acquisition theory and short-term memory capacity theory,and the author combines lexical chunk theory with English teaching practice and focuses on the lexical chunk teaching method.This author analyzes the role of lexical chunk teaching method in English vocabulary learning of grade one students,also designs and implements teaching experiment in order to explore the following two questions:(1)Can the implementation of lexical chunk teaching method can significantly improve Seniors' English vocabulary level ?(2)Can the lexical chunk teaching method enhance the interest and self-confidence of Seniors in learning English?There are 50 students in Class One and Class Two respectively whose English vocabulary level is relatively the same.The study lasts sixteen weeks with 5 lessons a week,and the two classes are taught by the author.Class One is the experimental class(EC),in which lexical chunk teaching method is used during the whole investigation and research.Class Two is the control class(CC),in which the traditionallexical teaching method is used during the whole investigation and research.After a semester of teaching experiment,the results of the research on changes of scores and learning interests and confidence in the experimental class(EC)have been obtained by means of tests and questionnaires before and after the experiment.The study shows that lexical chunk teaching method can improve Grade one students' English vocabulary level,enhance their interest and confidence in English learning.
