| With the development of society,it is more and more important to communicate in English.Therefore,learning English has become a compulsory subject for contemporary students.English writing is one of the most important parts of English learning.The score of English writing plays a very important role in college entrance examination.Although both teachers and students have devoted a lot of time to learning English,the result is not satisfactory.Because most teachers still stick to the traditional teaching methods,they cannot well mobilize students’ interest in learning and many students cannot improve their writing competence.Therefore,this study aims to stimulate students’ interest in learning English writing and develop their paragraph writing ability through the application of the Competency-Based Language Teaching,in order to improve students’ writing level and English comprehensive application ability.Based on the input hypothesis theory and the output hypothesis theory,this study applies the Competency-Based Language Teaching to English paragraph writing teaching.This paper attempts to change the traditional teaching methods to cultivate students’ paragraph writing ability as the core,to stimulate students’ interest in learning,and to promote students’ all-round development.The purpose of this experiment is to answer two questions:(1)Will the application of Competency-Based Language Teaching to English paragraph writing in senior high school help stimulate students’ interest in writing?(2)Will the application of Competency-Based Language Teaching to English paragraph writing in senior high school improve students’ English writing achievement?Six teachers of a key high school in Harbin,86 students in experimental class and control class were studied in this experiment.Six teachers were interviewed about their cognition of the Competency-Based Language Teaching and the classroom application of the Competency-Based Language Teaching.A survey of 86 students was conducted in order to understand their attitudes towards English writing,learning habits and learning methods.Then the teaching practice was carried out.The Competency-Based Language Teaching was applied to the experimental class,while the traditional teaching method was continued in the control class.Through the comparison and analysis of the experimental results and the experiment drew a conclusion.The research shows that the high school teachers’ understanding of the Competency-Based Language Teaching is not optimistic,and most teachers still use the traditional teaching method.Through the experiment,it is found that the Competency-Based Language Teaching can stimulate the students’ interest in learning,and the English paragraph writing test results of the experimental class have been improved significantly after the experiment.The significance of this study for the teaching of English paragraph writing in senior high schools is that the application of the Competency-Based Language Teaching can make up for the shortcomings of traditional teaching methods,effectively stimulate students’ interest in learning,and improve students’ paragraph writing ability.It has a positive influence on English writing teaching.However,there are also some deficiencies in this study.For example,there are a little examples for the application of the Competency-Based Language Teaching to English teaching in senior high schools.The Competency-Based Language Teaching is mostly used in orientation or vocational education and so on,so this research needs to be further improved. |
