| Reading teaching is the basic part of English curriculum and the focus of many scholars’ teaching research.Traditional reading teaching mostly focuses on the teaching of language knowledge,but neglects the cultivation of students’ autonomous learning and thinking quality.In recent years,the teaching research on key competency of subject is more popular.Based on the theory of Constructivism and Zone of Proximal Development,this study attempts to apply the scaffolding teaching mode based on the key competency of English subject to the teaching of English reading.In this paper,two parallel classes of Senior Two in a middle school in Fujian Province are taken as the experimental subjects.By the empirical research methods of tests,questionnaires and interviews,the main purpose of this paper is to verify the three research questions,that is,whether the scaffolding teaching mode based on the key competency of English subject can help students to improve their interest in English reading learning,whether it can improve the effectiveness of English reading teaching and whether it can enhance the self-learning of English reading.The research questions are to study the feasibility and effectiveness of the scaffolding teaching of applying the key competency of English subject in English reading teaching of senior high schools.The study results show that,compared with the controlled class,the experimental class which adopts the scaffolding teaching mode under the guidance of key competency of English subject has more obvious effect on English reading teaching.It can be seen that the scaffolding teaching mode based on the key competency of English subject has achieved some effect in the application of English reading in senior high schools.In the process of applying this new English reading teaching mode,the cooperative and interactive classroom learning atmosphere has greatly improved students’ participation,reduced their fear of difficulty,stimulated their interest in English reading,aroused their enthusiasm in English reading,enhanced their abilities of independent English reading learning,and improved their learning efficiency.In the teaching practice,this new teaching mode changes the reading teaching mode,which focuses on the teaching of knowledge and skills.It is student-centered learning activity design,which can cultivate students’ learning abilities and language abilities,shape students’ cultural awareness and thinking qualities,promote the development of students’ key competencies in English studies,and meet the requirements of English curriculum standards.Teachers become supporters and promoters of teaching activities,cultivate students’ thinking abilities,activate students’ interest in reading and help students improve their autonomous learning abilities.At the same time,under the guidance of key competency of English subject,the application of scaffolding teaching mode in actual teaching brings forward higher requirements for English teachers’ professional attainment.However,there are limitations in any teaching method and the author also puts forward some relevant suggestions in this paper.This research provides information for the application of scaffolding teaching mode based on key competency of English subject in the actual English reading teaching,and further enriches the practical value of using the theory of key competency of English subject to guide classroom teaching. |
