A Study On E-C Translation Of Sci-tech News From The Perspective Of Reception Aesthetics

With the development of globalization,English sci-tech news(hereinafter referred to as EST news)becomes an important window about international sci-tech information for Chinese readers.Moreover,metaphor,as a rhetorical way and mode of thinking,is ubiquitous in English sci-tech news.In order to reduce barriers for Chinese reader'comprehension about EST news,the translation about its metaphor is crucial.Reception Aesthetics was mostly applied to literature field(novel and poem etc.)in the past.As a result,it provides a brand new perspective for the metaphor translation in EST news.The main corpus of the study comes from the sci-tech news of bilingual news of New York Times,This thesis studies the strategies on metaphor translation of EST news through the literature review and case analysis methods under the guidance of reception aesthetics theory.At last,the author sums up the following translation strategies about metaphor in EST news.The details are listed as follows.As to the principle of reader-centered,the methods include changing vehicle,omitting metaphor and translating its implied meaning,and keeping metaphor and adding metaphorical meaning.From the principle of satisfying target readers'expectation horizon,it has three primary approaches,including replacing the metaphorical image of the source language with the image of the target language,converting metaphor into its meaning,and omission.Finally,as far as the principle of stimulating readers'creativity based on text indeterminacy is concerned,there are also three strategies,namely,translating metaphor with the similar image of source language,adding,and converting metaphor into simile.The aims of this thesis are to study the metaphorical translation of EST news from a new theoretical perspective,enhance translators' understanding about Reception Aesthetic,verify the feasibility of this theory in E-C metaphor translation of sci-tech news,and provide a case to support the study of news translation with the help of Reception Aesthetics.Moreover,the study has practical significance for EST news translation.
