Words in pairs are special lexical units in Chinese.They are four-syllable parallel structure in form and their internal components are equivalent in structure and related in semantics.Previous studies on words in pairs was mostly carried out from the perspective of four character and Chinese-English comparison,but the properties and characteristics of words in pairs were not well understood.Under the background of teaching Chinese as a foreign language,the author analyzes the characteristics and semantic cognitive mechanism of words in pairs,based on the words in pairs collected in Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th edition),we hope to give some suggestions to the vocabulary teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.This paper is divided into the following seven chapters:Chapter one is the introduction.In this part,the author presents the reason,purpose and significance of the study,summarizes the study status of relevant fields,and introduces the study methods and thoughts.In chapter two,we combine the concepts of words in pairs and selects the criteria for the selection of words in pairs.On the basis of the comparison between words in pairs and other special lexical units,the characteristics of the words in pairs are summarized,and the category,source and cultural meaning of words in pairs are discussed.In chapter three,the lexical status of words in pairs are discussed,we analyze the concepts of quasi-fixed words and fixed words,and believe that idioms in words in pairs are highly solidified and belong to the category of fixed words.However,the other words in pairs,compared with fixed words,are slightly inferior in terms of the integrity of meaning and the solidification of form,so they are classified as quasi-fixed words.Based on the prototype category theory,it is believed that quasi-fixed words are quite different from phrases in form and meaning,and are closer to fixed words.Therefore,quasi-fixed words belong to fixed words.In chapter four,the semantics and generation mechanism of words in pairs are analyzed.By analysis on the semantic and logical relationship between the components of words in pairs,we discusse the semantic types of words in pairs,which can be divided into two types:compositional semantics and fusion semantics,and analyze the mechanism of semantic generation with construction theory,conceptual metaphor and conceptual metonymy theory.In chapter five,the students of the School of International Education of Anhui University were investigated,and questionnaires were sent to them to investigate their mastery of words in pairs,and the results were sorted out and analyzed.In chapter five,taking students from School of International Education of Anhui university as the research object,the author their mastery of words in pairs based on the results of questionnaires they filled.In chapter six,by the analysis of the words in pairs collected in syllabus and questionnaires from foreign students,we put forward some suggestions in terms of teaching materials and teaching methods.In chapter seven is the conclusion,we summarize the viewpoints of the paper and the deficiencies of the research,and put forward some prospects for future study.
