With the demands of the society and the progress of the times,especially the development of educational reform,people put forward higher demands on teachers' teaching competence.However,the practical teaching competence of pre-service English teachers is generally inadequate.It is not only the inherent requirement of teacher's professional development to pay attention to the development of their teaching competence,but also meets the practical needs of educational reform.In order to know the subtle changes in the development of prospective English teachers' teaching competence in the course of research explicitly and deeply,this study was carried out based on constructivism and the theory of teachers' professional development,and took microteaching lesson study as research perspective and the main line of action.The researcher selected three undergraduate English majors from Hubei Normal University to conduct a qualitative case study.This study attempts to explore the following main problems: Has pre-service English teachers' teaching competence been developed through microteaching lesson study? If it has,how has it been developed? What are the characteristics and rules of their teaching competence in the course of development? The researcher used the qualitative research methods of classroom observation,content analysis,stimulated recall,interview etc.We studied the development history of three pre-service English teachers' teaching competence through empirical data,and analyzed the development characteristics and laws of their respective teaching competence.It is found that microteaching lesson study has promoted the improvement of pre-service English teachers' teaching competence to different degrees;and the development of their teaching competence is the result of their own efforts and external interference;and this kind of development has the characteristic of individualized development and spiral rise;meanwhile,their practical knowledge has also been greatly developed.Through the research,we draw the following conclusions: microteaching lesson study is a kind of practical teaching learning model with normal students as the main body,which can effectively improve the teaching competence of pre-service English teachers.And it not only provides practical opportunities for thinking about teaching,decision making and knowledge application for pre-service English teachers,but also provides a new approach and thinking model for the improvement of pre-service English teachers' teaching competence and professional development.At the same time,it helps pre-service English teachers and guidance teachers to reorient the connotation of teachers and students and the relationship between teachers and students,and it has an important enlightening effect on cultivating pre-service English teachers' self-professional development consciousness and professional learning community.This study carefully depicts the development of the teaching ability of the three intern teachers,which is helpful for pre-service English teachers to understand the profound connotation of teaching competence more clearly.At the same time,the research conclusions are expected to provide some reference and enlightment for normal universities,middle schools and pre-service English teachers.
