| Microteaching is a method widely used in teachers'education in some foreign countries, it can train the normal students teaching skills in the classroom. It takes in advanced educating ideas such as the teaching designs, the classification of teaching aims, the analysis of classroom teaching interaction, teaching evaluation and so on. In reality, it caters to the development of modern technology and the needs of teaching reform. In China, most normal colleges and universities have employed microteaching in their teaching methodology, but not in the non-normal ones. With the rapid development of the higher education, more and more teachers and students entered colleges and universities every year. Especially in the past three years, quite a lot of graduates of different majors have entered colleges and universities, becoming teachers. Many of them are non-normal graduates, so they haven't received any regular trained teaching skills. For this reason, it is extremely urgent for the non-normal English teachers to be trained. With the rapid development of Tieling Normal College (a vocational college), more than 100 teachers from different colleges and universities, have been employed in the last three years. Most of them were English teachers. Through questionnaires, observation and interviewing methods, mainly through questionnaires, this paper compared the 10 non-normal teachers with the 5 normal teachers as to their teaching skills in the year 2006 in Tieling Normal College. The pre-test showed that the 5 normal teachers'teaching skills were much better than those of the 10 non-normal teachers'. The author analyzed the reasons.According to the results of the pre-test and the analysis, the author put forward a training on the non-normal English teachers teaching skills. The training was the microteaching training. It consisted of three phases: the first phase was a two-week observation and evaluation training; the second phase was a three-week microteaching training; the third phase was a three-week videotaping analysis. After the eight-week training, the author administrated the post-test, employing the same questionnaires as the pre-test did to both the experimental group and the control group. The author also interviewed the experimental group. The finding of the post-test was that: the teaching skills of the experimental group got greatly improved while those of the control group changed a little. The experiment proved that microteaching training was really a rapid and efficient way to train the non-normal English teachers'teaching skills. |
