A Report On The Translation Of History Of Chinese Medicine

As the outstanding representative of Chinese culture,traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),has been spreading to the western countries for more than 400 years.Translation of TCM plays an indispensable role during the process of communication.Especially since the reform and opening-up,TCM translation is in full swing.History of Chinese Medicine is a monumental work which is the first book written in English to introduce the development of Chinese medicine.This thesis introduces some famous TCM masters and the introduction of western medicine,including many titles of TCM classics.Classics of TCM,invaluable and very literary,are the essence of traditional Chinese medicine and summarize the content of a book.As far as this thesis concerned,the translation of TCM classics’ title should use literal translation to strengthen the readability of translation texts when the original texts are very plain.And some cultural titles should use free translation to ensure the national character of original texts.Meanwhile,a title should be concise and easy to understand.And then,the author analyzes historical text from two aspects and think the translation of it should follow the original text and should not be deleted any information.When it is necessary to add some extra information,the translator should pay attention to the reliability of translation.Finally,according to the above analysis,this thesis suggests that the title of TCM classics should pay attention to the understanding of it and the translation of historical texts should be objective and serious and keep consistent with the exiting TCM texts.
