This thesis toke "Historical Memory" as a starting point and selects Wu Ming-Yi's three natural writings works:"The Book of lost butterflies","The Dao of Butterflies","So Much Water So Close to Home","The Stolen Bicycle" as the research scope, and other Wu Ming-Yi's works as references. The work aimed to explore how Wu Ming-Yi understood the life history of islands in Taiwan from a natural perspective and tried to clarify the entanglements between nature and history.Natural writing is not only about writing the nature itself, but the deep view behind it is the whole history changes of the island.Wu Ming-Yi's object of natural writing observation spanned from butterfly to hydrology, showing the author's observation of Taiwan's multifaceted phase.Through his own field observation of natural experiences such as the ecological habits of the butterfly, the changes of the ecological environment and the investigations of hydrology,Wu Ming-Yi leaded us to think more deeply about the relationship between human and nature by discussing issues like humanities, history, and the environment. He appropriately combined the ecological history with Taiwan's history of colonialism and the history of indigenous people's development, that provided a new perspective to understand Taiwan's land.In the book "Stolen Bicycle",Wu Ming-Yi used "bicycle" as a media to introduce multiple clues about the history of Taiwan's arrogance from the Japanese to the post-war period with the rolling of "bicycle wheels".Wu Ming-Yi's writing on nature, war, and history, the philosophical concern behind him still pointed to the return of nature. He hoped to re-establish the harmony between human and nature and to form a diverse, inclusive historical care that transcends the human perspective.Whether it is natural writing or novel writing,Wu Ming-Yi consistently upheld the concept of ecological civilization that included natural ecology, species, and environment. He presented us with a historical image of different orientations,a combination of nature and poetry, and a cross-examination of reality and history.
