As the spiritual state and ideological and behavioral orientation of teachers,teachers’ beliefs play an important role in promoting teachers’ professional growth and improving the quality of education and teaching.Although the academic community has not reached a consensus on the concept of teachers’ beliefs,this topic has become the focus of researches in the field of education with the continuous development of curriculum reform and teachers’ cognition research.Although there are some researches on the current situation and influencing factors of teachers’ beliefs,they seldom focus on senior high school English teachers,and the scope of the research is relatively small.Hence,it is worth to study senior high school English teachers’ beliefs and the influencing factors.This study is based on Lv Guoguang’s view,which divided teachers’ beliefs into student management beliefs,curriculum beliefs,evaluation beliefs and student learning beliefs.At the same time,this study adds the dimension of “teachers’ English language beliefs” according to the characteristics of foreign language teachers.With the combination of quantitative and qualitative research,this paper makes a thorough investigation on teachers’ beliefs of senior high school English teachers through survey and interviews with teachers in different regions of the country.This study selected one to two provinces in the seven geographical regions of Northeast China,North China,East China,Central China,South China,Southwest China and Northwest China.Each region distributed 200 questionnaires,and a total of 1400 questionnaires were distributed in order to investigate the current situation of senior high school English teachers’ beliefs and the influencing factors.The influencing factors are gender,age,professional title,educational background,graduated school,teaching age and teaching school.Besides,according to interviews,some other factors are also revealed to affect senior high school English teachers’ beliefs,such as school culture,colleagues and teaching experience.Finally,on the basis of the analysis and discussion,this thesis gives some suggestions and enlightenment to senior high school English teachers and their schools,as well as senior high school English teaching.
