A Report On Interpreting Practice At "Langfang International Economic & Trade Fair"

This report focuses on the writer's interpreting experience at "Langfang International Economic & Trade Fair",and describes the pre-task preparations,difficulties encountered and methods to solve them.The aim is not only to feel the requirements for a qualified interpreter from the angle of an English interpreting major student,but also to summarize common difficulties in exhibition interpreting and corresponding solutions.The purpose of this Langfang Fair is to promote local products and investment policies.A wide range of industries are involved in this Langfang Fair.The expressions used by speakers vary a lot including abbreviations,idioms,slogans and so on,thus different interpreting methods are adopted.This report includes five chapters: the first chapter briefly introduces "Langfang International Economic & Trade Fair" and the author's interpreting task;the second chapter describes the pre-task preparation,task operation,and post-task evaluation;the third and forth chapter analyse some of the interpreting cases according to Skopos theory and summarizes three methods used in the process: amplification,displacement,and omission,and the fifth chapter is the conclusion of this interpreting task.This report is aimed to give constructive suggestions to those who will work as exhibition interpreters in the future.
