News is one of the most convenient ways for people to know what is happening home and abroad.News translation provides people with more comprehensive information and helps people view the world from a more objective perspective.Brexit has made headlines worldwide over the past several months and the effects of Brexit on the Sino-British relations have become the focus of concern for Chinese people.The Economist,with its prudent attitude,in-depth analysis and sharp ideas,is a first-class platform for Chinese people to learn about Brexit.Therefore,the translation of the subsequent reports on Brexit selected from The Economist will help Chinese people understand the effects of this big change.Under the guidance of Skopostheorie,the author of this thesis selected some subsequent reports on Brexit from The Economist as the source text of the translation practice to make a study of the methods of news translation.The study aims at combining the translation theories that the author has learned with the translation practice,further improving the author’s ability in terms of news translation and making some contributions to helping Chinese people have a better understanding of Brexit.In this translation report,the author first analyzes the text features of The Economist.Based on that,the author chooses Skopostheorie as the theoretical guidance and elaborates its guiding significance in news translation.Next,under the guidance of Skopostheorie,the author summarizes some strategies of news translation at the levels of words,sentences and discourses and analyzes the examples.Finally,the author makes a conclusion on this translation practice,points out her shortcomings and provides a clear direction for further efforts.
