Hobbes is the founder of Western modern political philosophy, and his political philosophy plays an important role in the history of Western philosophy.Hobbes family idea is an important part of his political philosophy.Accurate understanding of Hobbes family idea helps to understand his social contract theory. This article takes Hobbes's Leiviathan and On Citizenship as main text, and discusses Hobbes family idea in three parts. The first part,Reading the social and family literature about the 16th and 17th centuries in Britain helps us to understand the social and family real forms of Hobbes life,in order to better understand Hobbes theory of natural state and family. The second part discusses the family idea in Hobbes theory of natural state from the perspectives of patriarchal theory and humanity theory, and points out the merits and demerits of these two studies. The third part takes the analysis of the family contractual relationship as the entry point.By comparing the difference between the family contract and the social contract,I observe the family idea in Hobbes state of nature theory and respond to such a problem,That is,Is there a contradiction between the family and Hobbes'social contract theory?Through specific investigations,we can see that the family idea in Hobbes state of nature theory is in contradiction with Hobbes's discussion of social contract, but this kind of conflict is not irreconcilable.
