A Report On The Translation Internship At The Verbatim Reporting Service Of The UN

From July 5th to September 5th,2018,I worked at the United Nations Headquarters in New York as English-Chinese translator at the Verbatim Reporting Service.I translated the transcripts of the speeches from the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly,the Security Council,the Disarmament Commission,etc.,from English into Chinese.This report contains the overall introduction of the internship,and the revisions and comments provided by the UN revisers during the internship.This report hopes to inform those who are interested in the internship at the Verbatim Reporting Service and all translation students and scholars.This report is divided into four parts.The first part is the introduction,which gives an overview of this translation internship and the structure of the report.The second part provides the basic information about the internship,which includes introduction to the United Nations Verbatim Service itself,the characteristics of verbatim reports and the specific duties of the internship.The third part is the case analysis.As the core content of the thesis,this part categorizes the comments of senior revisers at the United Nations in to four groups:words,grammar,structure and rhetoric.The final part is the conclusion.It reviews the whole report and summarizes the most important experiences gained during the internship.
