This report serves as the author’s translation internship report from 1st July 2014 to 31 st August 2014.During the internship, the documents translated by the author are mainly verbatim records of the meeting speeches by the Security Council, the General Assembly, the Disarmament Commission and the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. The topics cover the situation in the Middle East, post-conflict peacekeeping, the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, New Partnership for Africa’s Development, International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, etc. This report elaborates on the whole translation internship project, including the features of the UN verbatim reporting service, the problems occurred during the process and corresponding solutions. In addition, the author summarized several frequently-used translation methods used in translating long sentences in the verbatim records of the meeting speeches and found their implications for the skillful adoption of syntactic linearity strategy in simultaneous interpreting practices. Therefore, the author believes that it is a translation internship that would also hone the intern’s interpreting skills to a great extent. Hopefully, this internship report could, at the same time, provide some useful information for students who are willing to work for the language service department of the United Nations.
