The "basic concept" of the English curriculum standards in the basic stage points out that the English curriculum should be oriented to all students,respect individual differences and promote students' development(Shu Dingfang,2004).It can be seen that students have gradually become the main concern of educational researchers.In the class,however,there are always such students,whose English scores are often below the average,so they are labeled “weak-learners in English”.But the inadequacy of English learning does not mean that these students are useless in other aspects.The advantages of these students in other aspects are part of the multiple intelligence theory proposed by Gardner,an American educator.Therefore,this paper attempts to improve the reading comprehension capacity of weak-learners in English based on the multiple intelligence theory.Firstly,the paper introduces the source,purpose and significance of this research.Then the author lists the relevant research and current situation of multiple intelligence theory and weak-learners at home and abroad.Through analyzing the existing research,the author draws some conclusions for this paper and finds out the methods of this study.Then the author finalizes the research direction through a questionnaire survey and selects four weak-learners in English in Grade Nine as the research objects.According to the questionnaire,the causes of their learning difficulties are the personal characteristics(non-intellectual factor),the teachers,the families and the society.Then the author finds out the superior intelligence of these students through interviews and multiple intelligence test papers.According to this,the author tries to develop reading strategies to teach students in accordance with their aptitudes,through which the students are able to study the strategies of reading comprehension capacity,so that their interests in reading comprehension are enhanced,and their English performances can be promoted.
