Reading teaching of English picture books in primary schools should be conducted in a timely,moderate and regular way,which can not only stimulate students’ reading interest,but also enlarge students’ vocabulary and improve students English reading ability.In practical teaching,researches on selection of English picture books in Reading Teaching in Primary Schools are of great significance that successful selection contributes to efficient reading teaching and stimulates students interests in English learning,that moderate picture books bring pleasant atmosphere and help students accumulate knowledge of English language and lay solid foundation for their further learning.This thesis aims to analyze the current situation of the reading teaching of picture books in primary schools,and to explore the selection of picture books,with a view to getting the experience and lessons in the selection of picture books.First,considering the current situation of the reading teaching of English picture books in primary schools,on the basis of review of previous studies,three typical cases are selected to analyze the principles of choosing the picture book,that is,a variety of English picture books with a small number of new word should be selected in accordance with English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education that are close to life,related to textbooks and of story structure,and account should be taken into three factors,namely,the picture book,the textbook and students.Then,according to the cognitive development of primary school students and the analyses and researches of picture books teaching cases,the thesis respectively explores selection of English picture books in primary schools from junior grades(Grade one and two),middle grades(Grade three and four)to Senior grades(Grade five and six).Last,taking into account what are mentioned above,the preliminary conclusions of this paper are as follows:In the reading teaching of primary school English picture books,the picture books should be selected according to the age that are form life,related to the teaching materials and diversified in content.
