Vocabulary is of great importance in English teaching because it is the most fundamental part.Good vocabulary teaching is the first step to successful English teaching.However,there are still some problems in English vocabulary teaching.Most English teachers still adopt traditional teaching methods.For example,many teachers just read words and then explain the meaning for students without any efficient teaching strategy,which lead to the result that students have no interest and confidence in English vocabulary learning and they lack the awareness of self-learning and innovation.Association strategy is an effective and practical way.After applying the strategy in English vocabulary teaching and learning,the author explores the following research questions:(1)What is the effect of association strategy on the improvement of senior high school students' vocabulary learning?(2)What are students' changes of attitude towards English vocabulary after the application of association strategy?Two classes are selected from Grade Two in Xu Chang Number 2 Senior High School,including 100 students.Questionnaires and tests are both carried out twice before and after the experiment.An interview is conducted as supplement for the investigation after the experiment.The intention of questionnaires and interview are to study whether students' attitude towards English vocabulary learning has changed after the application of association strategy.The purpose of the pre-test is to know students' vocabulary level before the application of association strategy and the post-test is to find out whether students' vocabulary proficiency have been promoted after the application of association strategy.According to the results of the experiment,the researcher finds association strategy has improved students' English vocabulary proficiency.Students' attitude towards English vocabulary learning has been changed a lot.They have gradually raised their interest and built their confidence in learning.What' more,association strategy helps them save a lot time in learning vocabulary so their learning efficiency is promoted,which is helpful to reduce their learning burden.The limitation of the research and pedagogical implications are elaborated at the end of the thesis.
