Vocabulary plays an essential role in foreign language learning.Educators attach great importance to English vocabulary teaching,but students become dull in English vocabulary learning,resulting in unsatisfied English vocabulary teaching effect and double the effort.With technology increasingly advanced,multimodal theory,emerging in 1990 s,has an influence on pedagogical field,and multimodality has been increasingly highlighted in vocabulary teaching in senior high school.This study has applied multimodal teaching mode in vocabulary teaching in senior high school,and has explored two questions:(1)What are the effects of the application of multimodal teaching mode on vocabulary learning in senior high school,in terms of cognitive ability and practical ability?(2)What are the students' attitudes towards multimodal teaching mode? The study utilized both quantitative and qualitative methods,including tests,a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews.The researcher selected two classes from a senior high school in Shenyang as a control class and the other as experimental class.Traditional teaching methods was accepted in the control class,while the experimental class applied multimodal teaching mode.The experiment began in March 2018 and lasted for 4 months.During the experiment,both pre-test and post-test were conducted in 2 classes aiming at comparing teaching effects.Questionnaire,test and interview were carried out in experiment class subsequently to reflect students' attitudes to the teaching mode.Then the data were collected,and were analyzed with SPSS 17.0 statistical software,then drew conclusions according to the results.The findings show that the multimodal teaching mode is more conducive to memorizing and understanding vocabulary than traditional methods.It also plays a positive role in cultivating students' practical ability.Meanwhile,this method can increase students' interest in learning and help to improve their attention.Students hold an optimistic attitude towards this method.Above all,the researcher hopes that this study has certain enlightenment and reference value for English vocabulary teaching,and also provides a new concept for vocabulary teaching.
