As one of the primary goals of English Teaching, intercultural communication competence is a significant communication competence. And it is the foundation of successful communication between students and other members who come from other countries.Foreign language teaching takes on the critical role of building students’ cross-cultural communication ability as the primary avenue for establishing intercultural communicative competence.Under the traditional cultural teaching mode, teachers pay more attention to the transmission of cultural knowledge, while students have less opportunity to apply the cultural knowledge they have learned to communicative practice, which has certain limitations for the cultivation of students’ cross-cultural communication competence. Therefore,in this study, the multimodal teaching mode is applied to the high school English classroom and explores its impact on the cross-cultural communication ability of high school students. The research object for this study is 100 students from a senior high school in Wenshang,Jining City. The experimental class is taught in multimodal teaching, while the controlled class is still dominated by the former cultural teaching mode. This paper discusses the cultivation of intercultural communicative competence of high school students by multimodal teaching mode from three dimensions(knowledge, awareness and communicative practice). And this study tries to answer the following three questions by using the intercultural communicative competence scale, questionnaire and interview:(1)What is the influence of multimodal teaching mode on the overall level of intercultural communication competence of senior high school students?(2)What is the influence of multimodal teaching mode on the knowledge, awareness and communicative practice of senior high school students’ intercultural communication competence?(3)What is the student’s attitude towards the multimodal teaching mode? This study used the SPSS26.0 software,as well as a questionnaire and an interview,to conduct statistical analysis on the acquired data and obtain the following conclusions:(1)The multimodal teaching mode is beneficial to the improvement of students’ overall cross-cultural communicative competence.(2)The multimodal teaching mode is more effective in cultivating students’ awareness and practice of cross-cultural communication competence. The multimodal teaching mode has the same effect on cultivating the knowledge dimension of cross-cultural communication competence for high school students with the traditional teaching mode.(3)The multimodal teaching mode has a positive effect on students’ learning attitudes, interests and effects. The multimodal teaching mode can successfully boost students’ classroom engagement, activate students’ multiple senses in classroom learning, and assist students in efficiently participating in classroom activities..Students have a positive attitude towards the multimodal teaching mode. The research results of this paper can provide a new perspective and method of teaching high school English culture, cultivate students’ cross-cultural communication awareness, improve students’ cross-cultural communication abilities, and help teachers realize the important role of cultural teaching in English teaching. However, this study still has some limitations, for example, the small number of subjects in the experiment and the short experimental period. |
