In recent years,China's curriculum reform has been deepened.“English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011)” proposes that the cultivation of students' autonomy should be one of the main goals of English teaching.However,the problem with traditional teaching is increasingly obvious: The size of one class is too large,students' levels are uneven,and it is difficult for teachers to take care of all the students.Improving autonomous learning ability is one of the effective ways to improve students' learning scores.Otherwise,students will not improve their learning ability.Therefore,it is necessary to develop a new teaching model.The guided learning plan model which is based on Humanism theory,Constructivism theory and Zone of Proximal Development theory,is a feasible teaching model for cultivating students' autonomous learning ability.Based on the guidedlearning-plan teaching model,the author did a research on the cultivation of students' autonomy in a junior middle school.The subjects of this study is the eighth grade students in No.4 Middle School of Gongzhuling City.Class Five is the control class and Class Six is the experimental class.It lasted one semester.During the study,the author made surveys at the beginning and end of the study to examine the changes in students' autonomy through questionnaire and interview.And the comparison of scores at the final English test was also made.The results show that the application of the guided learning plan model has improved students' motivation,self-plans,methods and strategies,self-monitoring and evaluation in different degrees.Students' interest in learning is enhanced.Their English performance is improved as well.It has also proved that the English teaching based on the guided learning plan is more effective for cultivating students' autonomy.Finally,the author puts forward some suggestions about English teaching and makes some suggestions for further research.
