The imperial examination is an important system of talent selection in China.At the beginning of the Ming dynasty,Zhu Yuanzhang issued a decree to seek talents.The imperial examination has its fixed procedures,the core is"three-level examination system",the person who succeeds in the exam is known as"Jvren".Confucianism and the Confucian classics play an important part in Chinese history,the emperor and prince also learn Book of Documents as teaching material in Ming dynasty.The examinee focus on Book of Documents when they choose the test questions.As a Confucian classics,Book of Documents occupies an important position in the history of ancient Chinese classics,and has appeared as the paper title of imperial examination many times in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.The questions of provincial examination reflect some characteristics about Book of Docu;ments in Ming and Qing Dynasties:Classics of governing the country have a huge quantity,for example Hongfan,because there are many famous sayings about governing the country;articles about the style"shi"which records the oath before the war appear a few times because the idea of peace in traditional Chinese concept;according to the theme,chapters that appear more frequently in provincial examination of Ming and Qing Dynasties can be divided into several categories,they are basically related to national governance,natural environment,dialogue between emperor and minister,official system,legal system.Some conclusions can be drawn from the dif-ferences of provincial examination in Ming and Qing Dynasties:The number of false writings in Qing dynasty is less than that in Ming dynasty,it is related to the style of learning in Qing dynasty,although Qing Government and scholars are agree with Yan Ruoqu's results,they still need to maintenance legitimacy of counterfeit,counterfeits are referenced on account of its smooth language and profound truth,people can not understand content of the real work so examiners don't use it;we can compare the test questions of final imperial examination in Ming and Qing Dynasties,there is a change in the number of questions in regard to Yugong,we can know that people in Ming dynasty attached importance to thinking,people in Qing dynasty attached great importance to textology;same words appear over and over again;in general,the length of questions are short.Rulers of the Ming dynasty select talents with the way of examining classics.The topics of imperial examination have a close relationship with Book of Documents,which proves Book of Documents has a great influence in Chinese history.The article is meaningful to the study of the imperial examination system,the history of Book of Documents,and the history of the study of Confucian classics in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
