This is an English-Chinese simulated consecutive interpretation report on Regulating Gender Equality in Education held by Professor Shep in America. In this lecture,Shep has presented a lot of examples not only to illustrate the relationship between education and gender but also to show the significance of regulating gender equality for a country.Strictly speaking, this material belongs to an academic lecture which is extremely challenging for the interpreters, due to its fast speed, lack of logic and complex terminology concerning American politics, education, policy and law.In order to make this interpreting task more successful, the interpreter has made abundant pre-interpreting preparations, including the collection of the information on the speaker, glossary and a thorough research about the interpreting theories. As is often mentioned, theory and practice are closely connected with each other. In this interpreting practice, the interpreter will mainly utilize the “Interpretive Theory”proposed by Celeskovic who has pointed out that the focus of interpretation mainly relies on the sense, that is to say the interpreter should shift his attention from language to the sense of the speaker.Besides, the interpreter can also flexibly utilize some other interpreting methods which includes a better concentration allocation, coping tactics and so on.The interpreter can also reformulate the major information of the speaker and just convey the sense under some special circumstances. This simulated interpreting practice has ultimately achieved fruitful results. Not only has the task successfully been carried out but also the author has benefited a lot from it.First and foremost,pre-interpreting preparation is most essential and it has a direct influence on the interpreting result. What must be needed includes background information, terminology and so on.Then,in order to better serve future interpretation tasks, the author must never stop his consolidating of both English and Chinese, such as listening skills, oral expressions,memorization,note-taking and so on.Last but not the least, the author must pay special heed to the accumulation of encyclopedia knowledge through reading widely.
