The core of the functionalism is the Skopos Theory. It was proposed by Vermeer, who advocated that translation should be completely liberated from the original language text.He interpreted the translation activities in a completely new perspective. This paper takes English-Chinese translation of East-West Perspectives on Educational Leadership and Policy-chapters 7 and 9 as example, studies and discusses the translation strategies used in difficult words, sentences, and paragraph features. This paper uses the functionalism as the framework and its three principles of Skopos theorie to guide the translation. What's more, the translator elaborated how to apply the principles to solve the difficulties during the translation process. The author believes that Skopos theory can better guide the translation, and the quality of translation can be greatly improved.Academic papers are highly specialized, and they are not only the essence of research results in a certain field, but also an important academic reference material for scholars in the same field. Therefore, what needs for academic translation is not only accurate translation of content but also the readability and comprehensibility of the translation.Under the guidance of Skopos theory, this report combines translation practice and analyzes from three aspects: vocabulary, sentence and discourse level. From the vocabulary, the meaning of words should accurately translate to achieve the principle of faithfulness;from the sentence, the translation should put the target readers first;for the long sentences or compound sentences, the translator uses free translation or additional translation methods. In the translation of discourse level,it should be clear that the expressions of English and Chinese are different.
