A Study On The Job Burnout Of Junior High School English Teachers

As the intensity of social competition is getting more and more severe,people from all walks of life are suffering various job burnout s.Similarly,teachers nowadays are also confronting with the multiple job burnouts when they have to meet the high professional requirements as well as the great expectations from the society.Moreover,as English is getting more important than the other subjects,the English teachers,especially the junior high English teachers have to face more chanllenge of their work.They have to handle the more complicated teaching situation,thus they might suffer more job burnout.However,this assumption should be verified by the objective research data.That is why the author of this thesis decides to do some research on this topic,and she selects 118 research subjects from five different schools of Lingbao City to explore the following three questions.(1)What is the present overall situation of the junior high school English teachers’ job burnout?(2)What is the impact of the junior high school English teachers’ gender,marriage status,education level,teaching years,academic title,personal income on their job burnout?(3)Which of the eight factors has more prominent influence on the job burnout of the junior high school English teachers?The research instrument of the study includes a questionnaire which comprises three parts:(1)the teacher ’s personal information;(2)the teachers’ burnout inventory;(3)the affecting elements of teachers’ job burnout.After the investigation,the author applies SPSS 17 to make the relevant statistical analysis and draws the following conclusion:Firstly,the study has justified that the job burnout does exist among junior high school English teachers.Secondly,gender and education degree don’t have much impact on job burnout of the teachers,while the factors of the marriage status,teaching years,academic titles,head-teachers or common teachers and personal income have great impact on the teachers’ job burnout.Thirdly,the factors of the workload and the element of students are the top two causes of the teachers’ job burnout.After the analysis and discussion of the data,the author provides some effective measures on how to overcome the job burnout of the junior high English teachers.Finally,she illustrates the limitations and suggestion of this paper which mainly include: firstly,the number of subjects is not large enough to guarantee the high level research results.Secondly,the validity and reliability of teachers’ burnout questionnaire were not verified by the author.Thirdly,the theoretical foundation of this study is weak,and fourthly,an interview should be done to confirm the investigation;in addition,the instrument of this study is relatively simple and more effective measures should be taken by future researchers to conduct the similar studies.
