Job burnout is caused by long-term and unresolvable work stress,which includes three dimensions of emotional exhaustion,depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment.Job burnout has begun to appear in the field of education with the development of society.English is the main subject in the college entrance examination.The increasing emphasis on English has put pressure on English teachers.There have been several studies on teacher's job burnout in recent years but few studies on English teachers in senior high school.Therefore,the following research questions are proposed:1.What is the level of the job burnout of English teachers in senior high school in Liaoyang?2.What is the relationship between the demographic variables and the job burnout of English teachers in senior high school in Liaoyang?The survey selected 102 English teachers from six senior high schools in Liaoyang and conducted a questionnaire survey on teacher's job burnout.Meanwhile,the investigation also randomly selected fifty English teachers for interviews on teacher's job burnout.Both the interview and the questionnaire which adopted the Chinese version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Educators Survey(MBI-ES)are divided into three dimensions of emotional exhaustion,depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment.SPSS19.0 software is used to process and analyze the data.The results of the study are as follows.Firstly,the English teachers in senior high school in Liaoyang suffer moderate level of teacher job burnout.Secondly,as to demographic variables,in the dimension of gender,marital status,age and the workload,the survey finds that female English teachers and married English teachers have higher job burnout level because of the conflict between work and family.English teachers of 31-40 years old have the higher level of job burnout,which may be due to their middle age crisis.English teachers who have more than 20 periods experience the higher level of job burnout as a result of over work.And they experience the higher level of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization.Based on the findings,some suggestions are put forward,hoping that these methods will be helpful for teachers' health and their teaching.
