Jerusalem which is regarded as the center of the world by the ancients is the holy city of the three major monotheistic religions. So far there are many traditional consecration ceremonies in this region but it is the most frequent in this place. As the saying goes, much distress regenerates a nation.Although Jerusalem has been rebuilt many times,it stands in the forest of the world.Such a small hill is a place of hope for all three types of believers.Followers have hopes and dreams about this magic small hill that is a place of hope for the believers in three religions.Jerusalem Old City is divided into four communities,of which the Muslim community is the largest.Since the birth of Islam,Muslims have begun to settle in Jerusalem. With the expansion of the Arab Empire and the Palestine included in the Empire territory,Jerusalem has become an integral part of Islamic countries. After centuries of procreation,Muslims have even surpassed other ethnic religious communities as main residents.Islamic civilization also became a part of Jerusalem's multiculturalism. There are three reasons for the study of the Muslim community in Jerusalem in the 19 th century.Firstly, although Jerusalem has Muslims when Islam was founded in Jerusalem, the formation of a distinctive Muslim community began in the latter part of the Ottoman Empire. The formation of Muslim community was convenient for quantitative studies and concrete analysis.Secondly, due to the modernization of the Ottoman Empire and the need of Western powers who were contend for Palestine, the official documents and statistical data of Jerusalem in the 19 th century were more comprehensive. It's more scientific and operable than ancient and Medieval when relies on religious myths and fragments of a few traveler's records.Thirdly, the 19 th century saw the rapid development of global capitalism, and major capitalist countries successively entered a major historical transition period of imperialism in19 th century. The imperialist countries set off a frenzy of scramble. The Palestinian territories including Jerusalem have become a “eastern problem” and a “holy land problem” for the big powers.Jerusalem began to move toward modernization under the influence of the internal and external environment.Western-led modernization has had a huge impact on Muslim societies that use religion as their spiritual bond and base on the religious identification. The rise of the Zionist movement in the late 19 th century added a new dilemma to the Muslimcommunity, which has struggled with tradition and modernity. The Arab-Israeli conflict has subsequently risen and has affected so far.In a word,Jerusalem in the 19 th century was a crucial period. The Muslim community with a long history was the main group of Jerusalem culture during this period. They were the main force of Jerusalem's modernization and the core interest of the contemporary Arab-Israeli conflict. This article is divided into four parts. The first part is the introduction which briefly describes the purpose and significance of the research and defines the concept of "Muslim quarter" and "Muslim community".The body part of the paper is divided into four parts. The first part briefly describes the origin and early development of the “Muslim quarter” in early Jerusalem. The second part discusses the demographic development of Muslim communities in Jerusalem in the 19 th century in chronological order. This part explain the trend of population growth and analyzes the evolution and regional division of the Muslim community in the ancient city in the 19 th century. It illustrates the religious cultural and educational activities of the Muslim community at that time and vividly shows the life style of Muslims at that time. The third part analyse the condition of the Muslim community during the period of Ottoman Empire and the occupation of Egypt. The paper takes the development history of the Muslim community in Jerusalem as the main line, combining the political, social, and cultural characteristics of Muslim communities in different historical periods. It applies the knowledge of history, religion and ethnology to analyze the status of the Jerusalem Muslim community in the entire city and the impact on future generations.
