| As a shining pearl in Chinese music history,Shanxi folk song inherits ancient culture.With plain words,it reflects the real life of Shanxi laboring people.In recent years,there have been many books related to folk song translation.But it’s a pity although Shanxi is called“Sea of Folk Songs” with more than 20,000 folk songs,there are few books about Shanxi folk song translation.Therefore,it’s urgent to research translation of Shanxi folk song.This report is based on the author’s Chinese-English translation practice of the third chapter excerpted from Cultural and Geographic Perspective of Shanxi Folk Songs,which is written by Chen Tian,a vice professor at Shanxi Normal University.This chapter centers on the types of Shanxi folk songs’ subject matter.On the one hand,the chapter refers numerous folk songs;on the other hand,these folk songs have different themes.Therefore,it is representative to select this chapter as translation case.In the process of writing report,the author firstly makes a brief introduction to the translation project.Then the whole translation process is described in detail.Shanxi folk song has its own language features.A typical feature is that its sentence structure is always tidy and rhyming,just like that of Chinese ancient poem.The author mainly analyzes the application of “Three Beauty Theory” proposed by Xu Yuanchong in Shanxi folk song translation.Besides,there are lots of culture-loaded words in Shanxi folk song.The author studies the application of “Hermeneutics” raised by George Steiner in the translation of culture-loaded words.It’s expected this report can provide reference for other translators. |
